This weekend it was time for the fishing course. There was plenty of laughter and quite a lot of fish, although they were fairly small.
We met on Friday, set up camp, had a short introduction and went straight to fishing. We caught a few, and into the small hours we smoked roach and perch. To some people’s surprise, roach tastes very good and has an undeservedly poor reputation here in Sweden. We used alder chips for smoking.
One participant was up at around five for some early fishing, which brought in perch and roach. During the day we made different kinds of hand-fishing sticks, looked at alternatives to fishing line and tried various fishing methods. Anyone who wanted to could also make a slate hook. That evening we smoked fish with juniper branches.
It was a brilliant weekend. Despite the heat, it left us full of energy and inspired to spend more time in nature and go fishing more often. There was a lot of interest in the course, so I have added another opportunity to join it in August.
