Description
Over two days, we will focus on fishing and making fishing equipment.
Fishing is our main focus, and we will try different methods in practice. We are very likely to catch fish, and will learn to prepare and make use of our catch.
Topics include techniques from ancient to modern: bait fishing, tenkara (simple Japanese fly fishing), spinning, set-line fishing, otter-board fishing, nets and more. We will make fishing equipment from materials found on site, as well as slate and flint. We will cover cleaning and using fish, assembling a small fishing kit, ethics and the law.
The course will be adapted substantially to the group and conditions. If we catch plenty of fish, for example, we will preserve it. When fishing is slower, we will make traps and fishing equipment.
No previous knowledge is required. We camp outdoors, and participants provide their own food. Forest, lake and drinking water are available. Feel free to bring equipment you would like to try. The site is approximately 30 km outside Karlskoga; the exact location is provided once your booking is confirmed.
The course begins at 16:00 on Friday with an introduction and preparations for the evening’s fishing. We finish at approximately 12:00 on Sunday.
