Description
Workshop Weekend is difficult to describe in just a few words. It is not a trade fair or an ordinary event. It is a few days that make room for people, knowledge and encounters.
People with a great deal of knowledge — sometimes at an international level — come together and share it without grand gestures or pretension. Visitors and workshop leaders meet through craft, outdoor and woodland skills, primitive skills, talks and show and tell.
Over the weekend, you might encounter flintworking, hide tanning, tracking, carving, cooking over a fire, plant walks, net-making, knife-handle making, pole-lathe turning, fishing, clay, sauna and much more. The programme grows out of the people who come, and the most important parts rarely fit into a timetable.
You do not have to do everything. There is time to stay, ask, try, listen or carry on a conversation around the fire. The knowledge runs deep. The atmosphere is down to earth.
Workshop Weekend is family-friendly. Children are not an afterthought: they are part of the community. Perhaps a spark of curiosity will be lit here that stays with them for years.
